We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Tourist Guide to join our hospitality team in Ahmedabad. As the first point of contact for visitors to India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City, you will be responsible for bringing Ahmedabad’s 600-year-old history, exquisite Indo-Islamic architecture, and vibrant mercantile culture to life through captivating storytelling and exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Guided Tours: Lead individuals and groups through iconic sites like the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, Jama Masjid, Hutheesing Jain Temple, and the historic Pols of the Old City.
- Storytelling: Provide deep insights into the life of Sultan Ahmad Shah, the “Tree of Life” symbolism, and the non-violent legacy of Mahatma Gandhi at the Sabarmati Ashram.
- Excursion Management: Coordinate and lead day trips to nearby landmarks such as the Adalaj Stepwell, the Modhera Sun Temple, the ancient port of Lothal, or the Statue of Unity.
- Safety & Logistics: Ensure the safety of all tourists, manage transportation (including the heritage walk schedules), and assist with entry tickets and local permissions.
- Cultural Ambassadorship: Educate guests on local customs, traditional art forms like Garba and Block Printing, and proper etiquette for visiting sacred sites.
- Customization: Tailor itineraries to meet specific interests, from architecture students and birdwatchers (at Nalsarovar) to spiritual pilgrims and food enthusiasts.
Qualifications
- License: Possession of a valid Regional or State-level Tourist Guide License (accredited by Gujarat Tourism / TCGL) is highly preferred.
- Language: Fluency in English and Gujarati is essential; proficiency in Hindi and additional foreign languages (French, Japanese, or German) is a significant advantage given the international footfall.
- Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Ahmedabad’s urban design, the Sultanate history, and the significance of the Sabarmati Riverfront project.
- Communication: Exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills with an energetic and friendly disposition.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to walk the narrow lanes of the heritage old city and stand for extended periods in warm, semi-arid weather conditions.
Preferred Skills
- Crisis Management: Basic training in First Aid and emergency response protocols.
- Photography: Ability to assist guests in capturing the perfect “golden hour” shot at the Atal Pedestrian Bridge or Kankaria Lake.
- Local Networking: Strong connections with local artisans, textile museums (Calico Museum), and authentic dining spots like Agashiye or Manek Chowk.
Benefits
- Dynamic Work Environment: Experience the evolving landscape of a global heritage city.
- Flexible Scheduling: Opportunity for freelance seasonal work or full-time permanent roles.
- Global Networking: Interact with travelers and historians from across the globe in a city that is a hub for international delegates.
